While the country of Costa Rica has a beautiful and amazing landscape with a luscious rainforest that homes many wondrous creatures, it is also unfortunately a place that faces many issues that heavily impacts the lives of the less fortunate and those most at risk.
It Is Our Mission
To create harmony and prosperity in one of the most naturally beautiful areas in the world - Southern Costa Rica! The Pavones Foundation has endeavored to enhance the splendor of this area by bringing in beneficial programs and opportunities, starting with the region of Pavones near the town of Golfito.
Our mission is to offer education, skills training, jobs, medical treatment, and transportation to nearby hospitals, but that's not all. We're also here to help people overcome addiction, providing access to mental health counseling and wellness practices like breathing, yoga, and meditation. We believe in a well-rounded approach to ensuring the best possible outcomes for the people in this region.
That's why we're thrilled to announce our plans to build an education center that will be so much more than just a library or internet hub. It will be a place where people can come together to access educational and job training materials, conduct arts, business, and communication with ease. This center will be equipped with everything you need, from wifi to printers and scanners.
At The Pavones Foundation, our goal is to create a thriving local community where everyone has access to opportunities. We're doing this by improving support for community, education, medical care, and sustainable practices. Poverty
According to BTI 2022, "Costa Rica has promoted social inclusion policies resulting in high levels of human development. However, poverty reduction has remained stagnant, with poverty rates remaining around 20%, and the extreme poverty rate around 6%, since 1994."
Also, "Poverty levels are higher in rural areas. For example, the Brunca region (south Pacific bordering Panama) has the highest poverty incidence at 30.3%, almost twice the lowest level".

Education
As of 2017, 56% of children lack access to early childhood education due to poverty.
And now, according to BTI 2022; Costa Rica "Adult literacy rates exceed 97% of the population and coverage at the primary level is high (93%) but short of universal. At the secondary level, only 80% of the eligible population is enrolled and dropout rates are high, with nearly a third of 15-year-olds leaving school."
With your help, we can use innovative interventions to address a lack of access to childhood education. Such as providing educational opportunities: including vocational training, language courses, and computer literacy programs. By providing these opportunities, the foundation can help residents acquire the skills necessary to find better-paying jobs and improve their economic status.
Health
Costa Rica's "social security system (CCSS) has faced criticism for long health service queues and irregular drug availability. A 2016 actuarial evaluation by the University of Costa Rica also revealed that the reserve fund for the country’s retirement and insurance system, administered by the CCSS, may become insufficient in a matter of years in the absence of draconian reforms".
There is so much you can do to help us provide proper healthcare to those who have very little opportunity to receive it. Such as deworming children and providing first aid to those in pain.
Mental Health
By supporting us, you could also help support Project Wellness, which aims to integrate the decadent tropical nature in harmony with spiritual practices and programs (i.e., a zen garden type retreat) so people can connect deeply with nature and themselves. This program includes mental health counseling and rehabilitation, addiction recovery, and programs such as yoga, meditation, and breathing. With your charitable contributions, you could help offer several courses and opportunities to the local community and empower them to reach their highest potential.

Your donations will help go towards building, including a computer room, and equipping the community learning center, Aprende Centro.
This center will be a hub for professional development and education training, offering courses in English & Spanish, Creative arts, First aid & Emergency Response, Farming, Construction, Security & Property Management, Engineering & Architecture, Electrical, Plumbing, and more.
Additionally, Aprende Centro will have a medical clinic, equipped with professional staff and transportation services, to treat common health issues like minor injuries, sickness, and snake bites.

What are our long term plan?
Well, that's simple.
Maintaining
Sustainability.
1. Expand community outreach programs: The foundation aims to increase the reach of our community outreach programs by partnering with other non-profit organizations, government agencies, and local businesses to reach more people in need of support.
2. Build sustainable infrastructure: Some of our long-term goals are to build sustainable infrastructure, such as renewable energy sources, water supply systems, and waste management facilities. These efforts would help reduce the environmental impact of the community and improve the health and well-being of the residents.
3. Establish a self-sustaining model: Another long-term goal for our foundation is to establish a self-sustaining model where the community can manage and operate the programs and infrastructure established by our foundation. This would enable the community to take ownership of their development and create a sustainable future.
4. Create educational opportunities: We aim to create educational opportunities for the community, including vocational training, language courses, and computer literacy programs. By providing these opportunities, we can help residents acquire the skills necessary to find better-paying jobs and improve their economic status.
5. Increase funding and partnerships: Finally, We can focus on increasing funding and partnerships with other organizations and individuals. By expanding their funding sources, the foundation can support more community projects and create a greater impact in the region.
